John Esposito: Head Fitness Coach
John Esposito started his life with fitness about 4 years ago at college. John had entered college as an exercise science major, as well as a student-athlete who hadn’t really exercised outside of sports. He began his own personal fitness journey in his second year of college when he realized how out of shape he was. He needed to make a change, so he utilized the information he was receiving in college to help himself. John began with solely cardio and realized that he didn’t really excel too well at that, so strength training became his niche. With a year under his belt, John had lost about 40lbs, had gotten significantly stronger, and that’s when he knew he was addicted.
John graduated from Georgian Court University with a degree in Exercise Science, Health, and Wellness. Shortly after graduating, he attained his Certified Strength Coach certification from the National Council on Strength and Fitness. He is not only a trainer at Next Generation Training Center, but he spends time training highschool athletes, helping them get the training he wishes he would have gotten himself.
Getting to Know John Esposito:
Born in: Mount Arlington, NJ
Favorite Exercise: Any deadlift. And I mean ANY
Least Favorite Exercise: Lunge Jumps, timed, for reps, any variety
Favorite Cheat Meal: Five Guys, Double Bacon Cheeseburger, with fries and a Peanut Butter Shake
When not at NGTC: I’m either sleeping, working with athletes, or studying for my next certification.
The biggest influence in your life: Besides my parents, my professor, Dr. Chen. He opened my mind to new realms of exercise science as well as pushing me to expand my horizons as a client. I wouldn’t have the courage to experiment and challenge myself and others if he hadn’t done so.
If you could have lunch with anyone in the world, alive or dead, who would it be? I would have to choose my Grandfather. He was a brilliant athlete, genius engineer, and from what I’ve heard an amazing father. He grew up poor, built himself up work-wise and as a cyclist, becoming an Olympian. He has been my drive to become a better person and to better myself in every way.
What does the NGTC culture mean to you? The NGTC culture breeds a supporting atmosphere, a place where you can grow with others, not by yourself. No matter where you are in your fitness journey, work, life, there will always be someone who has experienced it or knows how to help you along the way. NGTC to me, is a place where you can leave everything at the door and work your butt off with others trying to do the same.
